How to text someone to define the relationship
'What are we?' is one of the hardest texts to send, but the answer almost always feels better than the limbo. Below are scripts that ask the real question without making it heavier than it has to be.
The thing people get wrong is the framing. 'We need to talk' or 'I have a question' makes the other person brace before the conversation has started. A short, warm version — 'I like this, I want to ask where you're at' — works much better.
Ask for their answer, but also bring yours. 'I'm into you and I'm hoping for something more than casual — where are you?' gives them something honest to respond to. Open-ended 'so what is this?' often just gets bounced back at you.

Won't this scare them off?
